“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
Colossians 3:1
This scripture gives great indication, we need to look up. James 1:17 records, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” Do we really believe what scripture says? If so, why do we spend so much time looking at the damage and destruction in life’s circumstances, falling into the trap of digging in the negative constantly, yet expect positive results?
We are creatures of habit. Without notice, we rise and go through the same routine every day. When was the last time you tried to brush your teeth or shave with your non-dominant hand? When did you last change your TV channel to something else, drive to work a different way, or stop at a different coffee shop?
We complain about the news, murmur about the coffee, and gripe about traffic. We get to the office, store, breakroom, or meeting room, and the conversations are all the same, people stressing about the economy, homelife, kid problems, and spousal problems. Yet, who is to blame? Us.
When was the last time we decided we were going to change our vision? Maybe the problem is not them at all. Instead, it might just be you and me. The late, great Righteous Brothers said it well when they sang,
“You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’
Woah, that lovin’ feelin’
You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’
Now it’s gone, gone, gone, whoa-oh”
What has changed in our world, home, family, and workplace? Vision! We have stopped looking up and started looking parallel/horizontal. Have you ever noticed “horizon” is in the world “horizontal”? Our horizon, “the limit of a person’s outlook or experience”, will change when our vision changes from those around us to that above us. You want the lovin’ feelin’ to return to your marriage, family, workplace, and world? Look up and broaden your horizon, expanding your viewpoint to Jesus and His Promises.
Our prayer for you this week: May you realize your horizon will change if you will, nevertheless, look up.
