Proverbs 24:16
“For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.”
Rebound—a word you commonly hear used in one of three settings: basketball, divorce, or financial collapse. Right now, as you are reading this, you can hear your favorite coach screaming from the other end of the court, “Block out. Rebound. Get the ball back. Head the other way and score!” True enough, you will never win without blocking out or rebounding.
True to fashion, “rebound” is commonly heard in the local coffee shop or tea party meetings, coming from jealous folk who really wish they were you and had the fortitude to fix their own situation. Look at him/her since their relationship fell apart and the wheels came off the wagon. They are on the rebound.
Next is the man who has been through financial ruin. How many around him say, behind his back but never to his face, “Will they make the rebound, the comeback?” All around them stand at attention to see if the struggling person will regain their balance socially, financially, mentally, and physically.
One fact remains true, every one of us reading this is on a rebound. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” None of us have a right to talk about anyone. We all have crumbled, lost the ball, or destroyed a relationship, be it a friend, marriage, or business decision. Our knees and elbows are scraped, and our noses bloodied. We are staggering, trying to regain our balance and get the ball back to score before the clock runs out.
If you stop and listen, you will hear our High Priest, Rabbi, Teacher, Friend, and Coach from what seems to be a lifetime away hollering, “Get up, get up, and get up again!” Never stop blocking out, rebounding, and heading the other way.
Our prayer for you this week: May you rebound and score before the clock runs out.
