“I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” – Psalms 34:4
David, on the run from Abimelech, feigns madness so the king would dismiss him as harmless. Here in the 34th Psalm, he repeatedly gives praise to God for His merciful kindness. His very soul is uplifted, knowing God is watching out for him. David, striking the parchment with the quill, leaves a record of what to do in the time of worry, concern, burden, and uneasiness.
How many of us reading this today are on the run, flight, or are trying to escape something bigger, greater, better, or more superior than who and what we are? Some of us may be like the Israelites when they were spying out the land of Canaan and said, “We were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” Massive repercussions can occur if the thing we are facing comes unwound.
David leaves us a checklist of what to do in these circumstances:
- Bless the Lord at all times.
- Continue praise coming forth from thy mouth.
- Allow your soul to boast in the Holy Ghost.
- Humble yourself.
- Magnify the Lord with me.
- Exalt His name together.
Wow, that’s a mouthful! When is the last time you allowed Him to be magnified in your life and become more important than you, we, or our agendas? When God becomes larger than life to you, you start seeking Him. David said, “I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
No wonder Matthew records in 7:7, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Also, Jeremiah 29:13 says, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Our prayer for you this week: May you come to realize the power of becoming a God-seeker.
